The Script for ‘Enchanted’ Sequel ‘Disenchanted’ Is Almost Finished

A rumored sequel to 2007 Disney flick “Enchanted” has been in the works for close to a decade, but now, it looks like the follow-up is finally happening: The film’s director just revealed that a script for the movie is almost finished.

In an interview with SlashFilm, Adam Shankman (“Hairspray”) updated fans on the new flick, which is titled “Disenchanted.” While the sequel has been in various stages of development for years, and gone through at least one director change (Anne Fletcher, who helmed “The Proposal,” was previously reportedly attached), Shankman said the concept for the follow-up remains mostly the same.

“It’s about Giselle 10 years later going, ‘What is happily ever after?'” Shankman told SlashFilm.

“Enchanted” starred Amy Adams as Giselle, an animated princess from a stereotypical fairytale land, who thinks she’s met her soulmate in Prince Edward (James Marsden). But when an evil queen (Susan Sarandon) banishes her to New York City, she meets and falls in love with a divorce lawyer named Robert (Patrick Dempsey).

The original was a delightful spoof of Disney films, and featured both animation and lavish musical numbers. Both will also be present in the new movie, too, according to Shankman.

“There’s a lot more songs this time than there were in the original, at least in the planning phase right now,” the director revealed to SlashFilm. ” … We are handing in a script in a couple weeks that I’m super happy with. Then gotta get the music written.”

Here’s hoping that the film finally gets the royal seal of approval from Disney. Stay tuned.

The One Reason the ‘Star Wars’ Expanded Universe Is No Longer Canon

Thumbnail for 197229

We’re now three movies deep into a new era of Star Wars, thanks to Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm back in 2012. One of the big appealing factors of at least two of them have been the return of beloved characters from the original trilogy. Meanwhile, one of the big issues fans have had with Disney’s rule, though it may have been made beforehand, is the decision to remove the “Expanded Universe” (now “Star Wars Legends”) novels, comic books and more from franchise canon. But if it weren’t for that change, one particular Star Wars icon would have been confusingly missing from The Force Awakens and its sequels.

One event in one novel published back in 1999 is to blame. The first installment of the Star…

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Suit Up in New Photo

Thumbnail for 197225

A new photo from the upcoming Marvel sequel “Ant-Man and the Wasp” has arrived, and it finally unites our titular duo in all their superhero glory.

The image features Evangeline Lilly and Paul Rudd in character — and in Lilly’s case, in full costume at last — as Hope Van Dyne and Scott Lang, a.k.a. Wasp and Ant-Man. While we’ve seen Lilly before in part of her suit, this is the first time we’ve seen her fully transformed into her insect-monikered alter ego, and we’re loving all of her outfit’s subtle nods to her winged inspiration. From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes “Ant Man and the Wasp,†a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War,†Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp†is directed by Peyton Reed and stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Walton Goggins, Bobby Cannavale,  Judy Greer, Tip “T.I.†Harris, David Dastmalchian, Hannah John Kamen, Abby Ryder-Fortson, Randall Park, with Michelle Pfeiffer, with Laurence Fishburne, and Michael Douglas.

Kevin Feige is producing with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard, Charles Newirth, and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, Paul Rudd, Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari wrote the screenplay. “Ant-Man and the Wasp†hits U.S. theaters on July 6, 2018.

The photo is practically buzzing with anticipation, and we are too, especially considering Lilly’s previous comments about the characters’ adventures in this new chapter. According to the actress, the events of “Ant-Man and the Wasp” will have a major impact on the “Avengers” universe, potentially opening up new timelines for Marvel characters to explore on the big screen for years to come.

Of course, we’ll have to wait for the sequel’s premiere — not to mention the May release of “Avengers: Infinity War” — to know more. “Ant-Man and the Wasp” is due to hit theaters on July 6.

Heath Ledger’s Sister Remembers Late Actor Ahead of 10th Anniversary of His Death

Thumbnail for 197221

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost 10 years since the world lost Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental overdose on January 22, 2008 at the age of 28. Now, the late actor’s sister is speaking out about her beloved brother ahead of that milestone anniversary, revealing how her family keeps his memory alive.

In an interview with WHO (via People), Kate Ledger said that she and her family are in regular contact with Michelle Williams, Heath’s ex-fiancee, and their daughter Matilda, now 12. Matilda has helped the family through their grief, Ledger revealed, calling her niece “an amazing girl and a source of delight to us all.”

And Kate said that she’s constantly telling her own children — who were quite young at the time of their uncle’s passing — stories about Ledger in order to keep him present in their lives.

“There’s not a day that goes by that we don’t share stories or talk about him,” she said. “He is very much alive in our house.”

Aside from personal stories, Kate revealed that it’s through watching Heath on the big screen that her kids have come to know their uncle better — though it’s still a painful experience for her.

“It’s especially difficult to see his moving images on screen and hear his voice—something which we as a family have had to learn to cope with constantly,” she said. “But it’s a blessing that we have all the images and footage so that we can share a part of him with our girls.”

We’re glad to have all of Ledger’s films, too.

We Finally Have a ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Plot Synopsis

Thumbnail for 197217

Disney and Lucasfilm have finally revealed the official plot synopsis for the upcoming “Star Wars” spinoff flick “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” though of course, there’s a slight twist: In keeping with the companies’ recent penchant for absolute secrecy, it doesn’t really tell us too much that we didn’t know already.

Still, the release of this new intel — as vague as it may be — is further confirmation that audiences are in for a thrill when learning more about the young titular hero, played this time around by Alden Ehrenreich (“Hail, Caesar!”). And the references to Han’s seedy origins in “a dark and dangerous underworld” — not to mention his first meetings with Chewie (Joonas Suotamo) and Lando (Donald Glover) — certainly have piqued our interest.

Here’s the full synopsis:

“Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story,’ an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the ‘Star Wars’ saga’s most unlikely heroes.”

What we’re most curious to see, though, is how the director’s credit will be assigned, since Ron Howard famously took over as helmer after Disney fired original directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller. (And after the pair had nearly completed work on the flick.) That may be yet another secret that the studio will keep until the film finally hits theaters.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” is slated for release on May 25.
