Deadline reports that the “Chicago” director is at the top of Disney’s list to oversee the reimagining of one of its most beloved properties.

Marshall already got one Disney reboot under his belt — “Mary Poppins Returns,” which stars Emily Blunt as a new version of the classic nanny character. That film, which also stars Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, and Colin Firth is due in theaters next Christmas. Marshall also directed Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”

“The Little Mermaid” remake will feature new songs by “Hamilton” creator Miranda and composer Alan Menken.

Disney has been on a very successful march to remaking their animated classics into live-action hits, including this year’s blockbuster behemoth “Beauty and the Beast.” Also in the works are remakes of “Aladdin,” starring Will Smith, and “The Lion King,” starring Donald Glover and Beyonce.
