Rosario Dawson has dropped out of the “X-Men” spinoff “New Mutants,” and her role was just recast with “Queen of the South” star Alicia Braga, The Wrap reports.

Braga will play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, who’ll act as a mentor to the young mutants played by Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy and Henry Zaga. Filming is set to start in July for an April 13, 2018 release date.

We’re not sure why Dawson is off the project, but she is pretty darn busy. She’s currently filming Netflix’s “The Defenders,” in which she reprises the role of “Night Nurse” Claire Temple she’s played in “Daredevil” and “Iron Fist.”

On the USA series “Queen of the South,” Braga plays Teresa Mendoza, who rises from the barrio of Jalisco, Mexico to become the head of a powerful dug empire. The Brazilian-born Braga, the daughter of actress Sonia Braga, previously starred in “City of God,” “I am Legend” and “Elysium.”

Yes! Evan Peters, whose Quicksilver rescue sequence was the highlight of “X-Men: Apocalypse,” will be back as the lightning-fast mutant in “X-Men: Dark Phoenix,” according to THR.

We don’t know how large his role will be in the upcoming film, which picks up where “X-Men: Apocalypse left off. It will focus on Jean Grey (now played by “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner) discovering the dark side of her powers and transforming into the dangerous Phoenix.

Series regulars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Nicholas Hoult, will also return, as well as “Apocalypse” additions Turner, Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler).

Also joining the film in an unknown role, THR reports, is Lamar Johnson of Canadian series “The Next Step.”

Production begins in Montreal this week and the movie will be out November 2, 2018.

Production on the next X-Men movie, The New Mutants, is scheduled to begin in Boston next month, which means that the cast is still being finalized. We know that Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga and Blu Hunt will star in the movie, which follows a group of young mutants as they learn how to control their superpowers while seeking to escape a secret facility.

Last month we heard that Rosario Dawson was in talks to play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a mentor for the teenage mutants. Now comes word that Dawson will not be joining the project. Instead, another quality actress is stepping in for her and will portray the good doctor.
